Overview
Gujarat Titans is one of the newer franchises in the Indian Premier League that was introduced back in 2021. Based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, the team has been part of the competition since the 2022 season. GT, as they are widely known, won the IPL title in their very first season, becoming only the second team in the league’s history to win the trophy on debut. They later became runners-up in 2023 and made it back to the playoffs in 2025.
The Gujarat Titans IPL team plays their home games at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the largest cricket stadium in the world. That in itself provides them with one of the best home set-ups in the entire cricket world. Torrent Group and CVC Capital Partners currently own the franchise with Torrent Group holding a majority 67 percent stake as of February 2025. After the first two seasons with Hardik Pandya, GT is now led by Shubman Gill who has been one of the most reliable run-scorers in India in recent years. Coach Ashish Nehra has built a strong reputation of disciplined bowling and aggressive batting at the top of the order, which has contributed to the team building a strong identity.

Team History
The Gujarat Titans was formed in October 2021 when CVC Capital Partners won the rights to operate the Ahmedabad IPL franchise with a bid of Rs 5,625 crore. The team was officially named Gujarat Titans in February 2022. Right from the start, the franchise made smart decisions. They picked Hardik Pandya as captain and put together a squad that balanced youth with experience.
Their debut season in 2022 turned out to be something quite special. GT topped the group stage with ten wins from fourteen matches, beat Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 1, and then defeated them again in the final. That final was played in front of over 104,000 spectators at their own home ground. Hardik Pandya’s all-round performances were central to the title win, but the squad as a whole played very consistently across the season.
In 2023, they came close to defending the title. Shubman Gill had a brilliant season with the bat, scoring 890 runs, the second-highest tally in a single IPL season at the time. Mohammed Shami took 28 wickets across the tournament. But in the final, Chennai Super Kings held their nerve and won by five wickets. It was a painful loss for Gujarat Titans News followers, but the team had proven they belonged at the top.
2024 was a difficult year. Hardik Pandya was traded to Mumbai Indians and Shubman Gill was handed the captaincy. Injuries and an unsettled lineup saw the team finish eighth. They missed the playoffs for the first time. However, 2025 brought a strong comeback. The team finished fourth in the group stage, with Sai Sudharsan winning the Orange Cap with 759 runs and Prasidh Krishna claiming the Purple Cap with 25 wickets. They were knocked out in the Eliminator by Mumbai Indians, but the signs were positive heading into 2026.
Team Performance
The Gujarat Titans Stats over their five IPL seasons show a team that has been competitive in four out of five years. Their first two seasons were their best, with twelve wins in 2022 and a strong run to the final in 2023. The 2024 season was an exception. Losing Hardik Pandya to a trade and dealing with a new captain and injuries disrupted the balance of the team. But bouncing back to nine wins and fourth place in 2025 showed that the core squad had the ability to perform at a high level again.
The Gujarat Titans have relied heavily on their bowling in knockout games. Rashid Khan in particular has been a match-winner in pressure situations. Their top-order trio of Gill, Buttler, and Sai Sudharsan in 2025 was one of the most productive batting combinations in the league, with all three scoring over 500 runs each in that season.

Records & Achievements
The Gujarat Titans Records are impressive for a team that has only been around since 2022. They are one of just two teams to have won the IPL in their debut season, the other being Rajasthan Royals back in 2008. They have reached the playoffs in three of their four completed seasons, and have appeared in two IPL finals.
Some key individual records for the Gujarat Titans include Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 129 off 60 balls in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2023 against Mumbai Indians, which is the highest individual score at the Narendra Modi Stadium in IPL history. Rashid Khan has been their most valuable bowler across all seasons. Mohammed Shami, during his time at the franchise, took 48 wickets across the 2022 and 2023 seasons combined.

Home Ground Details
The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is the home of the Gujarat Titans. It is the largest cricket stadium in the world, with a seating capacity of 132,000. The ground was originally built in 1982 and completely rebuilt and reopened in 2020. It is owned by the Gujarat Cricket Association and has hosted two IPL finals, in 2022 and 2023, both of which involved GT.
The pitch at Narendra Modi Stadium is generally considered batting-friendly. The surface is made from a mix of red and black soil. Red soil areas give good bounce and allow batters to play their shots freely. Black soil areas can assist spinners as the match progresses, and Rashid Khan has benefited from this over the years. In T20 matches, dew under floodlights plays a role in the second innings, which often gives an advantage to the team chasing.
