Overview
Lucknow Super Giants is among the more recent franchises in the Indian Premier League. The team was included in the IPL before the 2022 season, along with Gujarat Titans, meaning it was one of two teams to enter simultaneously. The Lucknow Super Giants IPL team is based in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh and the home matches are played at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium. The RPSG Sports Private Limited which is the sports arm of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group owns the franchise.
LSG has had a good beginning in the first two seasons. In 2022 and 2023, they made it to the playoffs. But they failed to reach the playoffs in 2024 and 2025, placing seventh each time. Although it has never won a title, the team has developed a stable batting team over the years and has demonstrated some quality bowling in some areas.
The franchise has put a definite effort in rebuilding in case of IPL 2026. They roped in an experienced pacer Mohammed Shami on a trade and Anrich Nortje and Wanindu Hasaranga at auction. Rishabh Pant remains the captain and the team is aiming to get back to the playoffs following two tough seasons.

Team History
The Lucknow Super Giants Team was formed in 2021 when the BCCI expanded the IPL from eight to ten teams. The franchise was bought by the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group for a reported Rs 7,090 crore, a record amount at the time. The group had previous IPL experience, having owned the Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016 and 2017.
From the start, LSG made bold decisions. At the 2022 mega auction, the franchise signed KL Rahul for Rs 17 crore as their first captain. They also picked up Quinton de Kock, Mark Wood, and Marcus Stoinis, building a well-rounded squad quickly. Andy Flower was appointed head coach and Gautam Gambhir joined as team mentor.
In their debut season, LSG won nine games in the group stage and earned a playoff spot by finishing fourth. They were knocked out by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Eliminator. In 2023, they made the playoffs again, this time losing to Mumbai Indians at the same stage.
After two solid seasons things slowed down. LSG finished seventh in 2024 and missed the playoffs. Justin Langer replaced Andy Flower as head coach ahead of that season. Then at the IPL 2025 mega auction, LSG made headlines by signing Rishabh Pant for Rs 27 crore, the highest amount ever paid for a player in an IPL auction. But the 2025 campaign also ended in seventh place.
Team Performance
The Lucknow Super Giants Stats across their four IPL seasons show a team that started well but has struggled to stay consistent. In 2022 they won nine of 15 group stage games. In 2023 they won eight. Both seasons ended with Eliminator exits, which was frustrating given how well they played in the group stage.
The 2024 and 2025 seasons were harder. They finished seventh both times. In 2025, the batting was not the main problem. Nicholas Pooran, Mitchell Marsh, and Aiden Markram scored close to 1,600 runs between them. The bigger issue was bowling. Mayank Yadav and Mohsin Khan both missed matches through injury and without them firing consistently, LSG gave away too many big totals.
The Lucknow Super Giants stats over the last two seasons point to one clear pattern: when the bowling attack is fit and firing, this team is hard to beat. When it is not, the batting alone cannot save them.

Records & Achievements
The Lucknow Super Giants Records are still growing given the franchise is only four seasons old, but there are some notable ones worth covering.
LSG have made the playoffs twice in four IPL seasons. At their home ground, the Ekana Stadium, the all-time leading run-scorer in IPL matches is their former captain KL Rahul with 566 runs from 14 matches. The highest team total posted at Ekana in any IPL game is 235 for 6, scored by Kolkata Knight Riders against LSG in 2024. LSG’s own lowest total at home was 108 all out against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2023.
The best bowling figures at the Ekana in IPL history belong to an LSG bowler. Mark Wood took 5 for 14 against Delhi Capitals in their very first home game in April 2023. The Lucknow Super Giants Records also include the distinction of signing the most expensive player in IPL auction history, with Rishabh Pant bought for Rs 27 crore at the 2025 mega auction.

Home Ground Details
The BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium is where LSG play their home matches. The full name of the stadium is Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, named after India’s former Prime Minister. The ground was built in 2017 and held its first international cricket match in 2018. LSG played their first home game at Ekana only in April 2023 because the entire 2022 IPL season was held in Maharashtra due to COVID restrictions.
The stadium is located in Ekana Sports City, south of the Gomti River in Lucknow. It has a seating capacity of 50,000 and is the fifth-largest cricket stadium in India. The ground is also known for having the longest straight boundaries among all cricket stadiums in India, which makes it harder to score freely down the ground.
