Biography
Zak Foulkes (born Zakary Glen Foulkes; 5 June 2002; age 23 years) is a New Zealand international cricketer who plays for the New Zealand national team in both programmes of cricket (i.e., 50-over and T20I) as well as domestically. He is originally from Christchurch, New Zealand, and is known for being a right-arm medium-pace bowler with the ability to swing the ball. He is considered to be a relatively tall player at 191 cm (6 ft 3 in), which helps him create bounce and generate seam movement off the pitch, making him one of the top all-rounders to watch in the future of fast bowling and cricket in general.
In his T20I debut vs Pakistan (21 April 2024), he had great success during his first Test match vs Zimbabwe (7 August 2025), capturing four wickets, which showed how talented a player he really is. Before the international scene came calling, his earlier years were spent playing for Canterbury (his home region), doing very well as an all-rounder in both forms of cricket.
In terms of franchise cricket, he had played in England (Warwickshire and Durham) and gained good international experience. He then made his first appearance in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026), signing with Chennai Super Kings for ₹75 lakh (AUD), where his ability to swing the ball and contribute with the bat made him one of New Zealand’s impressive emerging all-rounders.

Zakary Glen Foulkes was born in Christchurch (Canterbury), New Zealand, into a cricketing family.
Family Background – Cricket Influence
His father, Glen Foulkes, represented Canterbury Country; because of this, Zak was introduced to cricket early on in his life. Zak’s brothers Liam and Robbie also compete regularly in cricket, enhancing the sporting environment surrounding him as he grew up.
Childhood – Passion for Cricket
Zakary spent much of his childhood playing cricket at local cricket grounds and nets with his brothers. The competitive family setting allowed him to develop his cricket skills faster than he would have otherwise.
School Education – St Andrew’s College
He went to St Andrews College in Christchurch, well known to many throughout NZ for being great at playing cricket. During school he was one of the star performers on the field for the team.
2019 – Gillette Cup Success
One of his biggest achievements at school was winning the 2019 Gillette Cup national high school cricket championship with St Andrews College. He scored 267 runs and took 9 wickets, being the top scorer by runs and a top wicket-taker.
University Education – Lincoln University
Upon completing high school, he received a sports scholarship to continue his studies at Lincoln University. This enabled him to further develop as a cricketer while pursuing academic studies.
Early Domestic Exposure
As a teenager, he played for age group teams in Canterbury and worked his way through the domestic cricket system in New Zealand.
International Career
Zak Foulkes made his international debut playing T20I matches for New Zealand in 2024. His first T20I match was against Pakistan in Rawalpindi on 21 April 2024. He is a bowling all-rounder and has contributed to his teams as a reliable wicket-taking medium-pace bowler through the capture of many wickets in T20Is, his best bowling performance being 3/20, indicating he has the ability to break partnerships and restrict runs being scored while bowling in the middle overs.
Foulkes has shown himself to be a wicket-taking and disciplined bowler (line and length) in early Test matches and has taken advantage of his ability to swing the ball. He debuted in Tests against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo on 7 August 2025 and bowled very well (4 wickets for 38 runs in the first innings) because of his height and ability to seam the ball in good bowling conditions.
Foulkes has the potential to be an excellent long-form bowler, as evidenced by his best match bowling figures of 9/75 in Test cricket.
As a lower-order batsman, Foulkes has also contributed with his bat and has shown good control with the ball in ODIs. As Foulkes continues to gain experience, he will establish himself as a valuable all-rounder.
IPL Career
In 2026, Zak Foulkes made his way into the Indian Premier League when he got a contract with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the IPL auction for his base price of ₹75 lakh. This was his first experience in a T20 franchise league, which is the largest of its kind in the world. CSK management believed he was a talented overseas bowling all-rounder who would give them another option to bowl seam and help add runs at the end of the innings. His ability to move the ball and his skill set that enable him to perform well in all conditions make him an attractive addition to the squad. Foulkes’s debut season will be in IPL 2026, but he is expected to play a supporting role in the team’s overall bowling attack and add some depth to the squad. If Foulkes performs well during his time at CSK, it will increase his international prominence and create new opportunities to play in other T20 leagues throughout the world.

Records & Achievements
Zak Foulkes has accomplished a lot in his young cricket-playing career.
These are some of the most significant accomplishments of his young cricket-playing career:
- Started Test cricket career by taking 4/38 on debut against Zimbabwe (2025).
- Also recorded his best-ever Test match figures with 9/75.
- Was the leading wicket-taker for the 2022-23 Canterbury Kings in the Super Smash.
- Tied for being the leading wicket-taker in the 2020-21 Under-19 National Tournament.
- Scored an unbeaten T20 century (102) for Wynnum-Manly.
- Assisted St Andrew’s College to win the 2019 Gillette Cup and finished this tournament with both the most runs (267 total) and the most wickets (9 total).
- Has a best-ever ODI bowling performance of 4/41.
The above accomplishments outline the development of a future bowling all-rounder in international cricket.
Best Performance
One of Zak Foulkes’ significant achievements was playing his first Test match against Zimbabwe on their 2025 tour of New Zealand when he took four wickets for 38 runs in the first inning. This performance demonstrated his skill with seam movement through the use of both seam and height (bowlers executing both techniques). With this performance, Foulkes has proven himself as an up-and-coming fast-bowling option for New Zealand in longer forms of the game.
Playing Style
The 6 ft 3 in Zach Foulkes is a right-arm medium-pace swing bowler who consistently creates extra bounce off the pitch due to his height. Batters find it difficult to score off of him once he is on his “A” game; this is primarily due to his swing and seam movements (in addition to consistent control of both line and length).
In favorable bowling conditions, when he is bowling in Test matches, he has been known to swing the ball both ways, making him a very tough customer for batsmen.
Zach generally bats in the bottom half of the batting order but can score runs quickly via boundaries and potentially through runners, thus providing good value for money and support to top-order suitors when building partnerships together.
Overall Zach Foulkes has the skill set of a bowling all-rounder, making him both a valuable player for his domestic side and also on the international scene.
Net Worth
Projected net worth by 2025-26 will be in the range of ₹3–5 crore ($350,000–$600,000) for Zak Foulkes. Zak has multiple income streams via cricket.
Main income streams:
- In 2026, ₹75 lakh from Chennai Super Kings in an IPL contract
- Match central contracts with the NZC.
- Salary from Canterbury for playing domestic cricket
- Overseas league payments, such as those from the UK’s “Vitality Blast”
- Sponsorship and promotional contracts
He is likely to continue to earn more as he develops into an international cricketer and participates in more franchise leagues around the world.
Personal Life
In Christchurch, Zak Foulkes has always had a family that follows cricket closely. His father Glen, who played for Canterbury Country, has done an important job in helping to develop Zak into the successful cricketer that he is today.
Zak’s two brothers, Liam and Robbie Foulkes, are also cricket players. Robbie played for the under-19s for New Zealand, while Liam has not only participated in competitive cricket but also worked in cricket administration for many years.
Foulkes was educated at St. Andrew’s College and received a sports scholarship to go to Lincoln University.
Although he has achieved some great things in the international cricket world, Foulkes is a very private person, so his focus is on improving as a professional cricketer.
